In a prison where inmates are fed on a descending platform, those on the upper floors get more than their fair share, while those below starve for scraps, and one man decides to change the system. The film was shot chronologically, as Iván Massagué had to lose 12 kilograms over six weeks of filming to show his physical deterioration. Introducing FoundFlix: The Platform (2020) Explained (2020). I really liked this movie especially in the beginning. The first piece is great when the lead and the first 'cell partner' are talking. The dialogue is great and really sharp. This momentum carries through most of the film, however It seemed to freeze somewhere in the third act and to be honest it was the end of the 3rd act. There’s a lot of build up and mystery and come the third act, they set it up like they get answers and make a change and then it’s just like flat. You keep waiting for something to happen and then it doesn’t. Is there a plot twist? At the end, but then it just limps along for another ten minutes until the credits roll. The allegory is also very obnoxious, but works for the most part. My interpretation is that it is an allegory for the classes of society and the rich vs the poor. But that doesn’t make much sense. For me, they are randomly assigned a layer each month, so it’s not a class that just changes. You’re rich in one mouth and poor the next. I do understand that it’s interesting in itself because you never know where you’re going to land, so you have to treat everyone well. I guess I hope that actions determine where they landed, but maybe that would be a different movie. I would also have liked to explore the world more. This idea is so fascinating, why was this facility made, who are the administration, does anyone ever leave alive? I feel like this movie could have delved deeper into the history of this world and really fleshed it out and colored it a little more. So like I said, I think most of this movie is great, but there are just some parts that stand out. it’s not for me, but they don’t spoil the movie, so watch it
