Emily Perez follows four remarkable women in Mexico, each in pursuit of their own happiness. Cartel leader Emily enlists Rita, an underrated lawyer, to help fake her death so she can finally live authentically as her true self. This is pure insanity

A musical about drug dealers and corruption in Mexico??? WTF???"Emily Perez" is really inventive. It combines many different genres: drama, comedy, musical, thriller, but it does it in a very good and entertaining way. It is also extremely original and also surprisingly emotional. Here is a character who has a touching and heartbreaking journey throughout the film.

It’s not really a spoiler since it’s revealed in the first 15-20 minutes of the movie, but I didn’t know about it and was shocked that this movie went in that direction. So it’s recommended that you don’t read the description and go in completely blind if you want to get the best possible experience. The best thing about this "Emilia Perez" there are definitely performances. At Cannes, it won the best actress award for even four performances (Carla Sophie Gascon, Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz). Saldana plays the title character, and there are plenty of intense and colorful scenes (especially the musical ones). I’m glad that after all these blockbusters, she finally got a role where she could showcase her acting skills. Gascon plays the titular character.
bold and impressive
It’s kind of a supporting role, but she’s the heart of the movie and the whole plot revolves around her. Gomez and Paz were good, but I’m surprised they won the Palme too – their performances weren’t as great and memorable as the vision of Saldana and Gascon’s Jacques Audiard. This movie is stylish and looks beautiful. I love the cinematography and the score. Not everything works perfectly, and there were a few moments where I wasn’t completely sold, but most of the time I enjoyed it and was blown away by its craziness, ingenuity, and originality. I’m not a big fan of musicals, but the musical scenes (of which there aren’t many) in this movie are exciting and very well choreographed. frame that makes them enjoyable to watch.
The general public won’t like it
The songs are catchy and memorable (my favorites are about vaginoplasty and the taste of cola)."Emily Perez" not for everyone. Some people walked out, some said it was one of the worst films of the festival, some loved it (including me). The closest movie I’ve seen to this movie is "Annette" by Leos Carax. "Emily Perez" is much more enjoyable, but will still be missed by many people. But I still invite you to see it. Let’s support weird and niche cinema. No need to waste time endlessly scrolling, here’s the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
