Gary Oldman plays the quintessentially grumpy old man, an MI5 spy left over from the Cold War (and relegated to Slough House) who still fights the shadows and sees real threats before anyone else.

This is a stylized Cold War spy plane in a modern setting. Another well-executed show that creates its immediate world with details of setting, character (and plot) – essential elements of good storytelling.
I recommend it – Oldman and Kristin Scott-Thomas are brilliant, as are Jack Lowden and Saskia Reeves
If you’re just getting into this show now that season 2 is out, you should do yourself a favor and binge season 1 first – it’s a good thread and offers depth of character and situation that adds to the enjoyment. Season 2 seems to have upped the ante in terms of production design and cinematography – it' s really paid off and lifted the show above the usual weekly episodic grind.
