Free Programming Courses

Here’s an overview of the top online programming courses including Khan Academy, w3schools and Udemy.

If you’re considering learning programming for the first time or want to check out how you like it before you commit to the cost of a bootcamp or a course this list of no-cost coding classes has something for all. Some are beginner-level, while others will give you more advanced skills. All of them require some time commitment, but are completely free.

W3schools offers free tutorials to beginners that teach HTML and CSS. If you’re able to spare more time, you can take Udemy’s Tech 101-style course which will cover all the basics for a quick start.

More advanced coders will have plenty of options to select from on Scaler’s Coding course page, where you can find various online courses for a broad variety of skill levels. They cover everything from data structures to programming languages to give you a good understanding of how to think like an engineer in the field of software.

And for a more specialized method, consider learning programming in Smalltalk which is a simplified form of computer language Python that is incredibly easy to master. In just a few weeks you’ll be able to master control structures such as loops and if statements, while also getting a feel for the language. There’s also a more in-depth intro course that guides you through the basics of the object-oriented programming language.
